Today is world AIDS day.

1 December every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease.

"Globally, 9.4 million HIV-affected people are unaware about their status of infection. Timely diagnosis can reduce permanent damage to the immune system & transfer of infection to the partner.

World AIDS day is also a day to remember this two individual(  Dr. Suniti Solomon & her student Dr. Sellappan Nirmala ) in their role in discovering the dreaded disease.

In1986, the first known case of HIV was diagnosed by Dr. Suniti Solomon & her student Dr. Sellappan Nirmala amongst female sex workers in Chennai. Later that year, sex workers began showing signs of this deadly disease.
